I am a landscape artist. My inspiration is drawn from the ever changing colour, light and texture of the wide open rolling spaces that I visit and revisit during the seasons.
Drawing underpins all of my work and is the starting point for each print and painting. As the work evolves, I constantly look back to my drawing, re-working and re-drawing throughout.
The textual and tactile surface quality of the prints and paintings comes from my passion of working with collaged surfaces. I use grasses, seeds and chalk collected from the landscape and apply these to the card or canvas surface building up form and texture.
My prints are collographs, taking inked impressions from the surface collages. I have transferred this way of working into my oil paintings, I collage the surface of the paper or canvas using gesso and collected materials before using layers of transparent paint to build up the colours on the surface.
Ultimately my work is inspired by my personal and emotional response to the landscape and sense of space these landscapes evoke.
